1. Introduction

MAGSONS FOUNDATION recognises the vital contribution that volunteers make to our work. This policy outlines our approach to volunteering, including expectations, support, and principles of engagement. It is designed to ensure that volunteering is a positive and rewarding experience for all involved.

2. Definition of a Volunteer

A volunteer is someone who offers their time, skills, or experience freely and by choice, without expectation of financial reward. Volunteers support MAGSONS FOUNDATION in delivering its charitable activities both in the UK and internationally.

3. Volunteer Rights

Volunteers can expect:

  • To be treated with dignity, respect, and without discrimination
  • To receive appropriate training and support for their role
  • To be reimbursed for reasonable agreed expenses
  • To volunteer in a safe and supportive environment
  • To have their personal information handled securely and confidentially

4. Volunteer Responsibilities

We ask that volunteers:

  • Commit to agreed tasks and timeframes
  • Respect our values, policies, and procedures
  • Maintain confidentiality and safeguard beneficiaries’ privacy
  • Work cooperatively with staff, other volunteers, and partners
  • Notify us in advance if unable to attend agreed duties

5. Induction and Training

All volunteers will receive an induction appropriate to their role. This may include health and safety, safeguarding, data protection, and project-specific guidance. Ongoing training may also be offered where relevant.

6. Supervision and Support

Each volunteer will have a named contact or supervisor within the organisation to provide guidance, answer questions, and address any concerns.

7. Safeguarding and DBS Checks

If the volunteer role involves contact with children, vulnerable adults, or sensitive personal data, appropriate safeguarding checks (including DBS) will be required, in accordance with our Safeguarding Policy.

8. Insurance

All registered volunteers are covered by our public liability insurance while volunteering under our direction. Volunteers must follow safety guidance and not engage in activities outside the agreed scope of their role.

9. Problem Resolution

We are committed to resolving any issues fairly and promptly. Volunteers who experience difficulties should raise them with their supervisor or contact [email protected]. Formal concerns may be addressed under our Complaints Policy.

10. Ending the Volunteer Relationship

Volunteers or the organisation may end the relationship at any time, ideally with notice. We welcome feedback and offer exit interviews where appropriate.

11. Equal Opportunities

MAGSONS FOUNDATION is committed to equality, diversity, and inclusion. We welcome volunteers from all backgrounds and will not discriminate on any protected grounds.
